Summer Daze

I am a little late for my Monday Jodi summer update, but I have gone back to work this week and I am adjusting to this job carry on. It seems it only took 2 weeks to get out of sync and Poppy had hidden my camera - that doesn't help either.

Heading off to the park on our Santa supplied wheels, I think that this is the summer in a nutshell for us this year.It was also Caleb's first outing with his new shoes, you can kinda see them if you stand on your head. Not that exciting, I hear you sigh, she doesn't blog forever and then she gives us shoes. These are our new school shoes, from those fancy places where they actually measure your feet. Every day he asks how many more sleeps until big boy school so for the next 30 odd sleeps he has left to go he has to make do with wearing his beloved shoes and you can run really fast in them and if your 5 that is all you need. It is funny how he seems to be grown up all of a sudden and there are times where I catch glimpses of the man he is growing into all a little too quick for his mum. I am happy to admit that I am a little nervous at how he is going to cope with school, as are most parents Asperger's or not, but I am putting on my game face. I am not discouraging his absolute wonder at what school holds for him. This summer break is my time to get him as prepared as I can before Prep and the new challenges that is going to bring for him, but the structure will go a long way to help him cope. I just hope that he is lucky enough to find a couple of good friends that will help him though the first few weeks and that he has the stamina to go 5 days - a big ask as he works hard to keep it together. I know in the quiet times he is thinking about it and smiling, and who am I to try and doubt 5 year old logic - run fast and smile and it will all work out.

Speaking of an infectious smile, this one from the Popster gets me every time.

One of these days I should get me to one of those proper foot-measuring shoe shops because K-mart shoes don't even last a month on my kids.

Anyway. School for your little fella! How cool for him and how massive for you!

I don't doubt he will make friends fast ... he's one of the friendliest little boys I've met! School will be such a big adventure. I'm sure he's going to love all the exciting new things they do there.

Hopefully we can squeeze in a playdate before 1 February!

I remember with Lucia she was exactly the same (Siena probably was too but i can't remember back THAT far!) school could not start soon enough and wanted to wear her school get up everywhere we went. It's wonderful the eagerness, cherish it becasue by the time year 7 comes along school has lost a little of its shine! :-)

hello bugandpop crew! sorry i've been a bit quiet on the blogging front recently. have just had a look at recent posts and am amazed at how quickly your sweeties are growing up. caileb's physique is looking so strong and boyish and poppy looks like she is turning into such a gorgeous girl. am feeling your (admirably restrained) anxiety about caileb starting school. winter had a group of older kids laughing at him yesterday when he was having whooper emotional meltdown and i felt so vunerable for him as he can be sooo difficult. it must be extra hard for you knowing c comes with a label which may cause discrimination. have my fingers crossed that he will enjoy the structure and get used to the routine and having lots of peers around him regularly. can't wait to hear all about it (winter doesn't start for another year thankfully). xx

I love that five-year-old logic Cindy - I am sure he will do great at school, it's so sweet that he wants to wear his shoes all the time. My niece starts soon too and wore her new uniform for three weeks, taking it off only when it was being washed.
Such an exciting time for you all.

I saw you on your way to the park!!!!! just didn't want to toot the horn and scare the cr*p out of you! We were on our way to the big shopping mecca.

I can't believe I have a big Grade 1 boy now. Caleb (and you!) will have an amazing time at school.

and love those skirts! Must be something in the water around here. I'm very focused on sewing for myself (and other adults) at the moment too. Can't wait to see some more of your creations!
