Mission Quilt : Completed and Eye Spy

I have been only showing snippets but the quilt had made its way to its new home so I can finally show you. It has gone to a giraffe lover so have been keeping that part under wraps. I think Mum really liked it - a huge relief - and I made it before the baby decided to arrive. I am a little proud of this one I must admit. The giraffes are Sprout from Central Park and the rest of the fabrics are from Amitie and Central Park.
I have a couple of ideas floating around for the kids quilts but I would love some input on Caleb's. He is 4 1/2 so I think that he is just at that age in between little boy and little man, do you think I am better off to go with a theme "like pirates or animals" or just run with a colour pallet of patterns (like stripes, etc). I don't want him to grow out of it too quickly.

Thanks so much for everyone who commented on my eye spy question. I think we may as well keep going - I was feeling paranoid that people were feeling compelled to play. I don't mind AT ALL if people join in whenever the mood takes them, that makes me feel better. So next week I would love to see "inspiration" - blogs that you find inspirational, place, maybe your Nana who passed on some great jam recipe.

Oh its beautiful - aren't you clever! I can't wait to see what you do for Caleb. I'd probably go for colours for longevity. But a theme would be fun! Pirates might have street cred for longer than animals??

Love your Eye Spy theme for this week :)

Love the quilt Cindy, I have that giraffe fabric as my daughter's curtains - clearly I'm not too gender specific!
I think for Caleb's age I'd probably go with colours rather than a theme for the sake of it having some staying power too.

That is a beautiful quilt. Cute giraffes!

As for Caleb's quilt: Ofcourse I agree with the others that colours would probably last longer than a theme. On the other hand, my eldest is 4,5 now and I don't think I could make him happier than with a quilt with dinosaurs, or pirates, or firetrucks, or some other things he's crazy about these days. For me, the look on his face and the fun he would have with such a quilt would make it worthwile to accept the fact that I would have to make him a new one in a couple of years...

My mother made destructoBoy (then 4)a fabulous boat with a hotchpotch of colours held together with blending sashing. On the back is a grown-up pattern so he can have it that side out. Wanna see a pic?

I have no children, so I bring no experience to the table and that counts for quite a bit.

Were it me making a quilt for a young point, maybe I'd go with with something camoflauge to hide stains like Lush's paint by number series:

Jacqui G's

In the absense of camoflauge-cute, I'd use lots of pattern to hide stains and grow with a young boy.

It's really lovely Cindy, you are very clever!

Thanks for keeping Eye Spy going, I don't play as often as I'd like but love reading all the posts.

oooo love the giraffe quilt its gorgeous...huge giraffe fan here they are such placid elegant creatures!

I just finished my 5yr olds hungry caterpillar quilt and he loves it
I made it mainly because I LOVED the fabric (heheehe) it helped that he liked the book also
I know it wont last long once he hits the school age years but I know it will be something treasured forever and one day passed onto his own child/ren and thats why I love quilts so much

I would suggest go with soemthing you will enjoy making then it will be extra special when his older as all your love went into it xxx

I need help deciding on what quilt to make for lil miss aged 2??? any ideas? ahahah

Oh my goodness, that quilt is gorgeous! I absolutely love all of those different tones of orange.

I'd probably go with something similar to the one you've just made. It has a theme, but it's not overpowering because there's a lot of plain fabric too.

I love the giraffe quilt, it is so colourful and well designed. As for Caleb, why don't you ask him what he would like. Maybe he could choose some fabrics he likes. I wholeheartedly agree with Sarah-Jo, if you love making it iw will get finished and Caleb will be sure to love it too.

What an absolutely gorgeous quilt, I love the giraffes, you're so clever.
I think at 4 and a half, themes are still fun, the trick is finding the right one to suit Caleb. Le Artiste still loves dinosaurs, and he's almost eight.

I absolutley love it and keep looking at it. I can't wait till baby arrives and I can use it. It is a wonderful treasure to have and I am soooooo lucky Thanks so much Cindy

Wow Cindy, what a beautiful quilt. The oranges work so well together and the giraffes are just so cute.

For Caleb's quilt, why not combine your two ideas. I like Miss Muggins suggestion of asking Caleb to pick something, then if you pick something, it will be a combination of your ideas.

I'm with Karin. Says she - who hasn't quite ever made a quilt! Sometimes I think it's a bit unfair that boys get relegated to colourways after a certain age. How about a compromise? Mostly colours, but then with a surprise, sneaky animal (or whatever) every now and again? A bit like a 'Where's Wally?' approach...(?)

Great job Cindy, it's a really cool quilt - the giraffe themes just ace.

I never thought about making a quilt because I didn't know what theme/pattern I would like, but I have to say this is really inspiring (hah, kind of goes with this week's eye spy theme, there you go!)

I like the large images with the contrasting colors of this design... might have to think about something like this for the future. Congrats!

That quilt is lovely, i love the giraffes.

I think for Caleb's quilt I'd stick mainly to colours but I'd include some little bits of small scale prints that were maybe in a theme... maybe like some of these
