My Creative Space

Not all thread is created equal I discovered this week. I went to my local Patchwork shop looking for some Perle 8 to start hand quilting Caleb's quilt and they hardly had any?! In the end I decided to go with this cute two-tone linen. I enquired with the assistant if this would work being a novice - sure she replied there are no rules to quilting. That is my kind of message. I think it is a linen thread, quite thick and with no give in it at all. After a few days persisting and blisters worthy of a whittler I decided to go to a near by needle point shop, admit defeat and get some Perle. I was so annoyed that I had to undo a couple of big squares and wasted time but it is looking much better. So that is all the crafting I have done all week - hundreds of little stitches done and hundreds left to do. I would find it quite relaxing if I didn't have a million other things to do and if every night when I tuck in Caleb he didn't ask if I had finished yet.
More crafty goodness over at the Miss Marple house of Mystery - Kirsty's.
(How cute is that hedgehog fabric that Amy gave me. I so love it on the quilt. Thanks again Amy!)

Oh golly! the hippos do look great, but I'm not the one to thank for those. I reckonize the hedgehogs in the middle but the hippos must have been some other wonderful friend (and let me tell you that I am jealous)

I don't know much about quilting, but linen is really stiff and crunchy. I use it on my animals because it has so little give. I'm impressed you got a few squares before giving up.

Thanks for sharing your space!

Well I know who I'll be coming to for advice when I decide I'm nuts enough to handquilt something. Which will probably be tomorrow... knowing me.

Oh the bright side at least you didnt persist with the whole quilt and then feel unhappy with the finished product and your poor sore hands. Hope to see the finished product soon:)

I really don't know how it works, but pale blue and dark brown are a match made in heaven.

Oh no!! Can't trust those sale assistants. Has it crossed your mind to throw said thread at her and show her your fingers before walking out in a huff and shouting "Not happy". Just a thought....

I hope you do get a chance to just sit back and enjoy the process without too many more distractions or pressure. It looks great. :)

Sounds painful!
and it sounds like you got some bodgy advice. The quilt looks fabulous and you already know the recipient loves it so that's great motivation.
Hope those blisters heal nice and quick.
Abbe :)

Unpicking sucks - but it'll be worth it in the end. Love the browns and blue together - good combo
